NEWS UPDATES

UPDATED 4/16/2010 Grooming of Snowmobile trails in the Lassen National Forest has ended for this snow season. The Forest as well as your groomers, look forward to seeing you next snow season, hopefully as soon as the middle of December---snow willing.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE GROOMER.....Followed by Groomer's Blog.

You will find us grooming over 75 miles of snowmobile trails in the Jonesville Snowmobile Area of the Lassen National Forest. Our grooming season begins when the gate on Humboldt road at the Jonesville Snowmobile Park (N 40^06.845 & W 121^28.700) ((4970')) closes. Special Note: You will find a state of the art "Warming Hut Complex" Click Here located about half way between the Jonesville Parking lot and State Highways 89 and 36 at about 6500 feet. It should also be noted... a SnoPark permit is NOT required to use this area. " A Special message from the Lassen National Forest ::::::: By Forest Order, Lassen National Forest snowmobile areas, trails and routes are CLOSED to-- any and all -- wheeled vehicles including All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) during the Winter season. Wheeled vehicles create ruts on groomed trails which result in hazardous condtions for snowmobile traffic. Violation of the closure areas, roads and trails is not only dangerous, but can be costly as well. The punishment for violating this order can be up to $5000 for an individual, $10000 for an organization, or imprisonment, for not more than six months or both in addition to the cost associated with restoring the trail. Our concern is visitor safety and protection of the resource"

Current Status of Gate: The Gate OPENS THE WEEK OF APRIL 26th... -----The Gate's closure means --- Any and all Wheeled vehicles (including ATVs, etc) --- are PROHIBITED on all roads beyond the gate (Butte County Sheriff) and same are PROHIBITED in all Snowmobile areas and Groomed trails of the Lassen National Forest by Forest Order. SPECIAL NOTE: The Forest Snowmobile Trail Closure Order Expired March 31, 2010......

Caution: Well groomed trails can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS when SPEED and ICE are combined. Please discuss this with the members of your party. Additionally the FOREST would like to remind riders: PLEASE Remember that frozen mornings make for some icy riding conditions. Keep your speeds down and always ride in control.

Groomers are out most days weather and snow conditions allow, yes weekends also. Please watch for us.

Groomed Trails: "I", "F", and "D" today.

Update: 4/16/10 ------Both groomers were out today and we are pleased to report Trails: "I", "F" and "D" are in perfect shape. Best to use them in the next several days as the snow is soft and it is very warm up there....The snow around the groomer"s barn is gone so we will not be getting the engines out again until next snow season, what a contrast as the Warming Hut is almost completely buried!!!!!!!!!!!!! So reluctantly your groomers are signing off---see you in December!

Trails: "B", "D","F", and "I" are being groomed today.

One groomer was out today and looking at the warm temps forecasted for the days ahead, today could be the last day of grooming for this season. So far this season our Bombardier has been out 49 days and the Tucker 31 days. Also, Jim has groomed 40 days, Clint has groomed 19 days and Dan has groomed 16 days. We started grooming in mid Dec 09 and now it is March 15 ---3 months. The Trails are wide and hard packed and should be ok for a week or so, perhaps more. In fact snow could stick around for weeks at the lower elevations and months at the higher elevations! The snows this season have been !!!!!! unbelievable !!!!!! The Lassen National Forest is indeed a Winter wonderland! -----So as your groomers sign off we ask that you be safe on the trails and we look forward to seeing you next snow season.
