NEWS UPDATES

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 22nd Annual Poker Run! It was a great success and show of support for snowmobiling in our area.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE GROOMER.....Followed by Groomer's Blog.

You will find us grooming over 75 miles of snowmobile trails in the Jonesville Snowmobile Area of the Lassen National Forest. Our grooming season begins when the gate on Humboldt road at the Jonesville Snowmobile Park (N 40^06.845 & W 121^28.700) ((4970')) closes. Special Note: You will find a state of the art "Warming Hut Complex" Click Here located about half way between the Jonesville Parking lot and State Highways 89 and 36 at about 6500 feet. It should also be noted... a SnoPark permit is NOT required to use this area. " A Special message from the Lassen National Forest ::::::: By Forest Order, Lassen National Forest snowmobile areas, trails and routes are CLOSED to-- any and all -- wheeled vehicles including All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) during the Winter season. Wheeled vehicles create ruts on groomed trails which result in hazardous condtions for snowmobile traffic. Violation of the closure areas, roads and trails is not only dangerous, but can be costly as well. The punishment for violating this order can be up to $5000 for an individual, $10000 for an organization, or imprisonment, for not more than six months or both in addition to the cost associated with restoring the trail. Our concern is visitor safety and protection of the resource"

Current Status of Gate: The Gate is currently ...C L O S E D...and grooming of Snowmobile trails has begun. The Gate's closure means --- Any and all Wheeled vehicles (including ATVs, etc) --- are PROHIBITED on all roads beyond the gate (Butte County Sheriff) and same are PROHIBITED in all Snowmobile areas and Groomed trails of the Lassen National Forest by Forest Order. The Gate will open again in late Spring.

Caution: Well groomed trails can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS when SPEED and ICE are combined. Please discuss this with the members of your party. Additionally the FOREST would like to remind riders: PLEASE Remember that frozen mornings make for some icy riding conditions. Keep your speeds down and always ride in control.

Groomers are out most days weather and snow conditions allow, yes weekends also. Please watch for us.

Trails "I", "F","G", and "D" to the warming hut were groomed today

1/22/10 -Friday- Update of today's post. Beautiful powder from 5 foot at Jonesville to 12 + feet at higher elevations. {{{BE SURE TO CARRY SHOVELS AND HAVE FRIENDS WITH YOU}} As can be seen the Warming Hut has its share of powder! The trails groomed nicely today. The 10 snowmobilers in front of me, all extreme powder riders, did the job. I could not have groomed today without them!!!!!!! The road from just past Butte Meadows (green gate) to the snowmobile park has not yet been cleared and --simply put-- cannot be used by vehicles and is now too dangerous for most snowmobilers. Needless to say the groomers will not be out tomorrow. Hopefully this section of road will be completed by tomorrow (Sat) night and/or the back trail from Butte Meadows to the Park will be opened tomorrow. Anyway we expect, one way or another, to be able to get to our engines at the snowmobile park Sunday morning and be grooming again. Humboldt road from HWY 32 through Butte Meadows and on to the green gate was in great shape and plowed down to the pavement --thank you Butte County Road Department!!!! Our friends on HWY 89 and HWY 36, look for the groomers Monday or Tuesday.
